Electrician quotes in San Jose, compared line by line
Describe the electrical job once. Chet writes to electricians near your San Jose ZIP code, collects each quote in writing, asks about whatever is missing, and emails you one ranked list. Your first request is free. No card.
Electrical quotes in San Jose differ for reasons you can check. Most houses here are old, and an old house often has a small panel and wiring without a ground. A new heat pump water heater or a Level 2 car charger needs its own circuit, and sometimes a bigger panel. The City treats electrical work as permit work. One electrician prices the permit, the inspection and the surge protector. Another leaves them out and looks cheaper.
This page lists published price ranges, the San José rules that move an electrical quote, the problems that show up in San Jose houses, and the questions Chet sends to every electrician so the quotes describe the same work. Use the rules as the yardstick for each quote you get.

San José requires an electrical permit for electrical work. Depending on the project and property, the permit may be available online; if not, the project needs plans. A City inspector checks the work for code compliance.
